For years, Super Tuscan was just an unofficial nickname given to the best wines from the Bolgheri region that blended international grape varieties, such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with local varieties to make exciting new wines that didn’t have to follow the strict appellation rules.
Now, these special wines are part of the Bolgheri DOC or even have their own appellation, as in the case of Sassicaia, the region’s most famous wine. The town of Bolgheri is located on a charming road between the sea and the hills where you can smell the Mediterranean scents all around and get glimpses of the sea.
